Our glorious Savior is risen! What a wonderful God we serve who desired so much to be reconciled to a people that he loved, that he GAVE it all for you and me! I hope and pray that all of us will enter into this beautiful relationship with God made available only through Jesus Christ.
The students have been learning about Jesus and his great sacrifice, not to mention his resurrection power, during the Easter season. We have been studying how salvation comes by God's grace, not human effort or good works (thank God!!!).
In math, we have been focusing on understanding decimals and application to real-world problems. For social studies, the class has been reading By the Great Horn Spoon which is a fictional narrative that brings us along into the California Gold Rush! The Gold Rush is my favorite part of CA history- perhaps due to the many fun projects included. Science has taken a similar route as we learn about rocks and minerals. Seriously, GEOLOGY ROCKS!
Let's take a look at some fun times that were captured on camera last month.
On St. Patrick's Day, students found quite a few green surprises in the room. They were hoping for a pot of gold, but now they can relate better to the forty-niners that we are studying in history.
Adding and subtracting decimals using regrouping is learned best through games and manipulatives. The kids are enjoying math each and every day!
Students designed PowerPoint advertisements on selected ores and minerals by highlighting their properties and functions in today's society.
We are so thankful for our amazing parent/grandparents/family volunteers who make our school year so memorable. The Jog-A-Thon was a blast from start to finish! Thank you for sending home pictures from the photo booth with all of our students.
Our students have been blessed with the opportunity to visit our local firefighters year after year, building on knowledge from the previous year. This year we have taken a focus on praying for our firefighters and letting them know that they are valued. We had a great visit learning CPR & first aid as well as having a tour of the facilities.
These are some enthused students!
Tamara helps us learn about treating a wound.
Noah O. is the first to try a splint and sling.
Now it's our turn to give it a try.
Test time! Can you show the teacher what you have learned?
Sienna was the happiest volunteer in a neck-brace that I have ever seen. We are so thankful to this amazing family for the wonderful field trip!
Easter party time!! The parents had a egg-dying activity in which the students were able to show off their creativity. We also had time for a Veggie Tales movie on Easter, an egg hunt, and of course- FOOD! I think the biggest hit was our Bingo game.
Our egg hunt video:
For many of the students, they had been able to spray water at the fire station in the 1st grade, but this time they could handle the pressure much better.
Take a look at these kids now!
